The Hyssop Project is a bold new step for Hope Alive! Clinic Ministries. It is
indeed,
clean water for a thirsty land. The area of our Kolmini Clinic is arid
with no fresh water. We know of 3 wells in the area (one well is ours) that
were dug within the last 2 years. They produce salty water. This is not sea
water, but water that contains salt from deposits under the ground. In October
2007, I tasted the water. It was undrinkable. The local folks told me that it is
only good for some farm animals and crops. (The locals walk over 2 hours to get
a bucket of unsalty cloudy water from a stream!)
Our vision is to supply the clinic, nearby church and school, and locals with
FRESH water.
What is this
project?
Why "Hyssop"?
The project is named "hyssop" for several reasons. Let's look at Scripture.
Psalm 51:7 states:
Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Hyssop is a
vehicle that God has used to to purify and protect. There is no power in the
hyssop. It is just a "means" that God has used to accomplish His will.
It was also suggested to inquire about hyssop by a dear Pastor friend.
( and too, I like the name.)
How can you make salt water into fresh?
The Hyssop Project would entail a reverse osmosis or a de-ionized system. The
salt deposits are in the water on a moleculer level. That means it cannot be
filtered like a swimming pool or a home water faucet can be. There are several
sites on the web that can explain the process better than I can. We have
several folks and a few chemists working on the best and most practical system
for our needs.
What happens after we have an abundant supply of fresh
water?
The Hyssop Project would provide water for the clinic, the nearby church,
thier school (250 kids with NO potable water all day), and the local folks. While
being provided with this clean water, the people would be encouraged to
attend the local church. We would supply water at little or no cost. After the
people are supplied with fresh water, the next step is to begin an irrigation
project for local farmers to grow crops and raise farm animals.
What will this project take to complete?
The Hyssop Project can only be accomplished by your prayers and financial
support. We need your prayers. Please ask God to give us the wisdom, open the
doors, and provide the finances that we need. As you know, ALL donated
monies go directly to Haiti. NO stateside expences or salaries are ever taken.
That gives Hope Alive a rating of 100%.
Thank you for keeping Hope Alive! in Haiti. May God richly bless you.

The first system for clean water has been
installed in our Mariani Clinic. This "basic"
system is a proto-type so as to plan and
install the more involved reverse osmosis
system in Kolmini
We are also planning to build portable
systems for the tarp cities.
